Aurora Plastic Model History
Aurora Plastics Corporation was started in March, 1950 by an engineer whose name was Joseph E. Giammarino and a businessman by the name of Abe Shikes. The Aurora Plastics Corporation began in Brooklyn, New York on West Hempstead, Long Island. The company began as a contract manufacturer of injection molded plastics starting in 1954.
They began to manufacture their own line of plastic model kits after the hiring of John Cumo a salesman somewhere around 1952. John was able to begin marketing the model kits to hobbyists. Aurora Plastics went after the younger modeling crowd very profitably. They accomplished this with kits that were a little smaller in size and a little lower in price.
Some of the first of Aurora Plastics models were of the famous fighter aircraft of World War I and II. Aurora went on to create many other types of models also. Aurora was granted a license from Universal Studios to create their line of monsters like Frankenstein and others.
Today you can still find some of the very detailed model kits of Fighter Aircraft treasured by collectors. We have located a supply for you to enjoy here.
